We continue serialization of the collected edition of the six-issue 2018 miniseries Empowered and Sistah Spooky’s High School Hell, written and laid out by me and featuring art and lettering by Guest Artist Carla “Speed” McNeil and coloring by Jenn Manley Lee.
Yeahp, this cover is riffing off the once-common complaint re: twisty, so-called "brokeback" poses with female comic characters showing both T&A simultaneously. (Or "Escher girls," if I recall the sneeringly contemptuous term correctly.) Gotta say I was often bemused by non-artists bemoaning "impossible poses" on cartoon characters(!) given that, after hundreds or possibly even thousands of life drawings since 2017, I've repeatedly run into figure poses with real-life models that I would've sworn were "impossible." (Hell, some real-life gymnast and dancer poses on my tablet's camera roll look so outlandish that I wouldn't have drawn them in g-d Empowered, folks!)
Next week on the webcomic, time for a deathtrap speedrun as I burn through pretty much every g-d idea I had for infernal scholastic shenanigans in a single issue before our narrative, well, takes a turn to set up the final issue's big throwdown...
Today’s Patreon update: Originally done as a means of scratching out more worktime to complete the long-gestating Empowered vol. 12, I've switched over to a Monday/ Wednesday/ Friday Patreon posting schedule that won't feature the fixed content format I previously used. So, who knows what today's post might feature? Could be Life Drawing or Distressed Damsels content (both of which are featured at least three times per month), or something in the Work Stages, Vintage Con Sketches or Design departments, or possibly something entirely new, such as updates on fantasy test projects The Last Party and The Chaste and the Chained. Golly!
